Why did we buy the land?

In early 2006, the landowners announced that they were going to sell the site on which the Center was based.

The brightly painted 4,947m2 center is the hub of all our activities and has been offering food, shelter, medical care, training, and educational facilities for over 1,800 homeless or abandoned children each day.

At the center we teach up to 450 youth 11 vocational skills, including mechanics (Motorcycle and Car), electronics, electricity, sewing, laundry, beauty training, hairdressing, cooking and hospitality, welding, commerce and farming. The primary school educates around 400 children every day and the medical center provides essential health care. There is also a huge recreational area for the students to play sport, learn dancing and music and create wonderful pieces of art.

The Mith Samlanh Center also houses the  internationally  acclaimed  ‘Friends  the  Restaurant’ and  provides  a  base  for all Mith Samlanh outreach programs.

After much careful consideration of all our options which included moving to another rental property, looking for land and building a center, or purchasing the current property, we came to realize that their only viable option at the time was to purchase the center. This option would also ensure that Mith Samlanh would remain in the heart of Phnom Penh close and easily accessible to where the street children live and work.
