Creative sustainable programming

Friends-International aims to develop creative and innovative projects with the emphasis on long term sustsainability.

 
   
 

Initiate new projects: Friends-International will initiate projects for street children in areas where the needs are not yet addressed. The objective is to eventually localize these projects

  • Friends-International founded the organization Mith Samlanh in Phnom Penh, Cambodia in 1994. With
    on-going support, Friends-International has supported Mith Samlanh to become a leading organization working with street children.
  • Friends-International initiated a project in Siem Reap for street children in 2005.
  • Friends-International is currently carrying out a research on Cambodian children and mothers working on the streets of Bangkok (Thailand) and initiated a pilot-project to respond to identified needs.

Support Governments to initiate programs: Whenever possible, Friends-International will collaborate with the Government to develop common projects in order to support and develop quality national responses to the needs of street children and their families:

  • Friends-International is collaborating with the Ministry of Social Welfare and launched the first and currently only street children project in the Lao PDR.
  • Friends-International support the local Cambodian Government (DSAVY) in Kratie and Kampong Speu to develop services for street children using drugs.

Technical support to existing programs: Friends-International is supporting, upon request, organizations’ ability to develop their programs for street children:

  • In Thailand, Friends-International supported Ruam Mit Foundation for Youth to develop its strategic planning,
 



its administrative systems and trains its staff in working with vulnerable children.

Support to organizations wanting to initiate street children projects: In many areas, organizations are in place and are interested in developing their work with street children. Friends-International provides a technical support to allow them to develop holistic, quality services:

  • Friends-International was invited by the organization Nai-Zindagi in Pakistan to provide technical advice to launch their street children project (Project Smile).

Develop artistic projects for street children: Friends-International works with various artists, both in country and internationally, to develop arts projects with the children. These projects include painting workshops, drama, movies, photography, etc.
